Renewing Licenses by Email or U.S. Mail
Renewal of a CHRB license by e-mail or U.S. mail is limited to those individuals who are currently licensed, or whose license has been expired less than one year, in certain categories. If a licensee does not meet either of those criteria, they must apply as a new applicant. If licensed in a category other than one listed below, the applicant must complete their renewal in person at a CHRB Licensing Office. The following license categories are eligible for renewal by mail.

To renew a license by e-mail or U.S. mail, a licensee is required to complete a CHRB 4, Application for License. All licensees are required to complete side one in its entirety. Those renewing a Trainer’s license, Owner’s license shall also complete the appropriate sections on side two.
The CHRB 4, Application for License, may be downloaded as a PDF, completed, electronically signed and returned to the CHRB Licensing Office in Sacramento via email. It may also be printed and mailed via US mail, or taken to any CHRB Licensing Office for processing.
Payment of Fees
Licensees who are eligible and choose to return their completed application via e-mail, may also submit a credit card authorization and have their credit card charged at the time the renewal is processed. A new license will be mailed the Address of Record provided on the application. No visit to a CHRB Licensing Office is required, unless there is no licensee photograph on file.
Trainer’s License Renewal
CHRB Rule 1503.5 requires that Trainers and Assistant Trainers complete twelve hours of approved continuing education coursework during the preceding 36-month period. Additional details can be found on the Continuing Education for Trainers page.
